Insecurity across different regions of Somalia this week resulted in the deaths of at least 41 people and 33 others were injured. The incidents ranged from the killing of a well-known businessman in Mogadishu to young teenage boys who were shot and killed in Mogadishu to the murder of civilians in northern Somalia. Al-Shabaab fighters killed a senior Somali military commander at Elasha Biyaha. A suicide bomber killed himself and injured three civilians in Afgoye district. ASWJ claimed to have killed five militants in south-western Somalia. The incidents occurred mainly in the regions of Bay, Banadir, Galgadud, Gedo, Hiiraan, Lower-Jubba, Lower-Shabelle, Mudug and Sool.

GEDO: Al-Shabaab Launched Attack Again

June 16, Luuq – Three people were killed and four others were injured after al-Shabaab fighters launched hit and run attacks against the allied forces of the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) and Ahlu Sunna Wal Jamaa (ASWJ) militia between Luuq and Garbahaarey districts of Gedo region. The allied forces were fired upon while they were passing Caal-Macow village according to ASWJ officials and local residents of the region.

MUDUG: Two Locals Injured in Car Fire in Central Galkayo

June 16, Galkayo – Two locals were seriously injured after their vehicle carrying Khat (narcotic plant) caught fire in central Somalia on Saturday according to witnesses and government officials. The delivery car was been travelling from Adado district in Galgaduud region to Galkayo, the provincial headquarters of Mudug region. The driver and one of its passengers were injured and admitted in local clinics in the city.

LOWER-SHABELLE: Al-Shabaab Carried Out Suicide Blast in Afgoye

June 16, Afgoye – An al-Shabaab suicide bomber rammed a car packed with explosives into one of the government bases in Afgoye district outside the capital on Saturday according to witnesses and police forces in Lower-Shabelle region. Al-Shabaab said its suicide attacker killed dozens of TFG and African Union forces, but the TFG forces in the district denied it and said the blast caused only three injuries.

GALGADUUD: Pastoralists Battled in Central Somalia

June 16, Gelinsoor – One person was killed and one other was injured after armed conflict broke out among pastoralists from Adado and Gellinsoor districts in central Somalia, witnesses and locals said. One of the locals in Gelinsoor who spoke to Somalia Report confirmed the motive of the conflict was over the grazing land in the area.

BAY: Al-Shabaab Launched Attack Against TFG and ENDF Bases

June 16, Qansah-dhere – At least six people have been killed while five others were injured after heavy fighting between the allied forces of TFG and Ethiopian National Forces (ENDF) against al-Shabaab fighters broke out on the outskirts of Qansah-dhere of Bay region, residents and TFG officials confirmed to Somalia Report. The attack came after al-Shabaab launched offensive against the allied the forces.

BANAADIR: Three Civilians Injured in Explosion in Mogadishu

June 17, Mogadishu – Three civilians were injured after an explosion hit Suuq-bacaad market, the second largest market in the capital on Sunday according to witnesses. Muhiyadin Hassan Jurus, a TFG official in Yaqshid district in Mogadishu, said the explosion was caused by car loaded with explosives. He said civilians were injured, and they have arrested locals suspecting links with al-Shabaab.

LOWER-JUBBA: TFG Forces Launched Attack Against Militants

June 17, Afmadow – At least seven fighters were killed in fighting that rocked the outskirts of Afmadow district in Lower-Jubba region of southern Somalia, TFG officials said. The fighting came after TFG soldiers launched an attack against bases near Afmadow district. The TFG commander in Afmadow claimed they killed four al-Shabaab fighters and captured one another.

MUDUG: Pirates Fought in Central Somalia

June 18, Hobyo – One person was killed and three others were injured after heavy fighting between two rival groups of Somali pirates broke-out in Hobyo district of Mudug region. The battle came when pirates argued over ransom payments. According to one of the residents, they are concerned about other armed conflict between the Somalia pirates in the district. Casualties were admitted in local clinics in the district.

BANAADIR: Local Man Executed in Mogadishu

June 18, Mogadishu – Residents in Wajeer village of Kaaraan district in the restive capital of Mogadishu said they have found the body of a local man who was slaughtered on Monday night. TFG security forces reached the scene and took the body of the local police station. The victim was identified a civilian who arrived Mogadishu recently from Yemen.

GEDO: ASWJ Claimed to Have Killed Al-Shabaab Fighters

June 19, Garbahaarey – ASWJ in southern Somalia claimed to have killed at least six fighters from the militants after a light fighting between ASWJ and al-Shabaab broke out at Barwaaqo village about 30kms north of Garbahaarey. The fighting came when al-Shabaab fighters launched an attack against an ASWJ convoy travelling between Beled-Haawo and Garbahaarey districts of Gedo region.

SOOL: Armed Men Opened Fire on Civilians

June 19, Gawso-weyne – Twelve armed men with four-wheel drive vehicles opened fire on civilians travelling in northern Somalia according to locals and Somaliland officials in Sool region. Armed men believed to loyal to Khaatumo stated engaged shootings in Gawso-weyne village some 25km north-east of Oog. Two different shootings occurred in the area which killed a total of three civilians and injured three others.

LOWER-SHABELLE: Al-Shabaab Battled Locals in Southern Somalia

June 20, Qoryooley – One person was killed and three others were injured after heavy fighting between al-Shabaab fighters and local farmers broke out on the outskirts of Qoryooley district in Lower-Shabelle region. Residents said the motive of the battle is not clear yet.

LOWER-SHABELLE: Al-Shabaab Fighters Ambushed TFG Convoy

June 20, Alamada – Al-Shabaab fighters ambushed a military convoy of TFG forces in Alamada area of Lower-Shabelle region according to locals and government officials. Ahmed Abdulhamid, a TFG commander in the area, said they killed two al-Shabaab fighters, while they lost three of their soldiers. Al-Shabaab did not comment on this attack.

BANAADIR: Hand Grenade in Mogadishu Injured One Civilian

June 20, Mogadishu – One civilian was injured after unknown armed men hurled a hand grenade into an office in Yaqshid district of Banaadir region witnesses and locals said. The culprits managed to scape from the scene.

BANAADIR: Three Teenagers Killed in Mogadishu

June 20, Mogadishu – Three teenagers have been killed while one other was injured in Mogadishu on Wednesday night according to residents and government officials. Unknown gunmen with rifles and pistols carried out the shootings and they had managed to escape from the scene before the arrival of local security forces from the government. The teenagers were killed inside their residential building at Suuq-xoolaha village of Hurwaa district.

BANAADIR: Local Businessman Killed in Mogadishu

June 20, Mogadishu – Unknown armed men with pistols shot and killed a prominent local businessman in Wadajir district of Mogadishu, witnesses said. The perpetrators managed to escape from the scene. Security forces started security operations, but no one was arrested.

HIIRAAN: TFG Soldiers Shot and Killed Teenage Boy in Beledweyne

June 21, Beledweyne – TFG soldiers in Beledweyne of Hiiraan region has shot and killed a young teenage boy after they said he was armed with hand grenades and a pistol and planned to commit terrorist activities against the TFG and ENDF in the town. Government officials said that the suspect tried to run away from the government soldiers who killed him.

GEDO: Al-Shabaab Launched Midnight Attack in South-western Somalia

June 21, Beled-Haawo – At least three TFG forces were injured after al-Shabaab launched a midnight attack in Beled-Haawo district of Gedo region according to TFG officials. The militants entered a private residence in the district. One of the residents in the district said there were more than 25 fighters and targeting local NGO workers and TFG commanders living in the area.

HIIRAAN: RCIED Explosion in Central Somali Left One Dead

June 21, Beledweyn – One person was killed and three others were injured after a remote controlled explosion rocked in Beledweyn, the provincial headquarters of Hiiraan region in central Somalia. The TFG and Ethiopian national forces reached the scene and began security operations, arresting more than 15 locals suspecting links with al-Shabaab. Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack.

LOWER-SHABELLE: Senior TFG Leader Killed in Ambush

June 22, Elasha-Biyaha – At least six people, including the senior TFG police commander were killed in an ambush by the al-Qaeda linked insurgent group al-Shabaab, witnesses and officials told Somalia Report on Friday. Mr. Afrah Ali Afrah was in charge of the recently seized Elasha Biyaha areas on the outskirts of the capital where he was appointed as the new TFG commander in chief. At least two soldiers were killed along with Commander Afrah by militants who fled after the shootings.
